Etching and aquatint on paper蝕刻飛塵法紙本   |  Printmaking版畫  |  Artwork藝術作品

The modern generation receives too much negative emotions that require filtering. In my point of view, making art is a way to calm myself back to serenity and release myself from repressed negative sentiments. In art-making, 'catharsis' is defined as a process of purging repressed sentiments, and can be regarded as art therapy. I have found that self art therapy exists in most of my art-making processes. As etching is a time consuming craftsmanship that require meticulous technique, by carefully applying an artist’s touch and refining in-depth visual presentation, I believe the resulting either narrative or abstract image can express conceptual content, which may provide room for the audience to contemplate, and thus develop their own interpretations.

All in all, I think etching is sort of a solace, a space of contemplation. Continuity (2018) is a project that helps me to reach a serene state of mind through repetitive recognition, dissection and self-evaluation from time to time.
