There is a wide-ranging debate over whether children with special educational needs should receive education in ordinary schools. Supporters believe that studying in ordinary schools can minimize the labeling effect and enhance children's independence. Opponents argue that the special needs of these children cannot be met in ordinary schools, since those teachers generally lack special education training.
教育界就特殊學童應否就讀主流學校爭論不休。支持者指出,特殊學校過度保護特殊學童,使他們缺乏自主能力;反而主流學校的老師,可因應特殊學童的能力,設計合適的教材,讓他們與普通學生一般上課,有同等的學習待遇。反對者則認為,主流學校的老師缺乏特殊教育訓練,不懂特殊學童的需要,反使他們跟不上學習進度。
