A young cockerel's job is to call out the time at the Observatory. The work is extremely repetitive. One day, labouring under the sun, he gets particularly fed up. However, after recalling his childhood dream and witnessing his friend beaten in a cockfight, he decides his life is not so bad and carries on.
小雞阿輝在天文台工作，每天負責報時。他日出時上班，日落時下班，周而復始。基於工作性質，他常常獨自工作，還需要日晒雨淋；他很羨慕其他雞隻的生活。阿輝回想兒時曾與好友浩一談論理想：阿輝憧憬作天文台報時員；浩一則決定作一隻出色的鬥雞……阿輝觀看浩一的鬥雞比賽，浩一不幸輸了……
