I first experienced sleeping in a tent when I went to Australia last year. My friends prepared me a tent with a pillow, a blanket, an air mattress and bed sheets to sleep in the countryside. At that moment, I thought living in a tent could somehow generate a feeling of home, which providing comfort, security, freedom and a private area for me. With lots of uncertainties about the inadequate housing problems, I decided to build a space for myself. By freeform crocheting and weaving, I created a tent. Although its surfaces are very colourful, they actually represent a contradictory idea of helplessness. The tent creates a space for us to think and feel safe, however, we must face the reality when coming out from inside. Sometimes we work hard to build something, but it may not last. Just like the tent, although I see it as a “home”, it is simply temporary shelter.
