The artist created a series of works with Kwong Yuen estate, focusing on the exploration of the emotional connection between individuals and places, as well as the changes between them. This series includes a couple of different mediums, including recordings, glass sculptures, and a photography collection, every work shows the artist’s emotion and memories towards Kwong Yuen Estate, uniquely. The first part of the work is a recording extracted from “Living, Leaving”. The recording captured the conversation between the artist and her grandmother, discussing their feelings and impressions of Kwong Yuen Estate. From this conversation, audiences can feel the artist’s deep emotions towards this place and the gradual distancing of their connection with the Kwong Yuen Estate. The second part named “Unavailable Address” is a glass sculpture. An old mailbox with no address symbolizes the distance between people losing connection. The artist’s initiative was to provide an opportunity for people to write letters to those will never come across again; and to express the words, and emotions deep under their hearts. This work merged the characteristics of glass: transparent, and untouchable. Trying to let audiences associate with the similar status of memories, as well as the wall between people. The last part is a photo book named “The Rust”. This photo book captured the old Kwong Yuen. The artist invited her past good friend Sum to write her a letter, making it the preface of “Unavailable Address”. The letter showed their alienated and unrepairable relationship, revealing the artist’s pity for Kwong Yuen and the past simultaneously. This series explored the relationship between individuals and places and the bonding between people. The artist mixed her emotions and ideas into the work through different mediums, presenting a story about memories, leaving, and letting go. Through the works, audiences can review the bonding between them and people, and places they’re familiar with, eventually understanding their feelings of pity, and letting go.
