禽流感肆虐，導致活家禽零售業面臨被淘汰的危機。政府為了防患未然，實行鐵腕政策。分區屠宰活雞一旦實行，雞販無可避免遭裁減。人雞分隔的措施已令部份從業員步向失業。有些雞檔牌主經營困難，被迫交還牌照。政府幫助雞販轉行，他們可參加再培訓課程。不過，完成課程後，當局不會安排就業跟進。大部分雞販年紀較大，學歷偏低，難以改行。
